FAC is partnering with The Bluestone Organization, Hudson Companies, and Jonathan Rose Companies to redevelop a 5.8-acre publicly owned site along Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal. This site, formerly a manufactured gas plant, is undergoing environmental remediation and will become a 950 apartment 100% affordable development with a public park, a newly mapped “shared” street, two “rain garden” spaces for community resident spaces for activities and relaxing and a public school. Half of the apartments will be affordable to very low income families – earning below 50% of AMI. Plans call for 3 acres of open space including a 1.5 acre public park, an 80,000 square foot public school, and 36,500 square feet of community facility, commercial, and retail space. The NYC Department of City Planning will begin the rezoning process in 2021, with site “Brownfield Remediation” occurring in 2021 and 2022 and construction of the first phase of this project potentially beginning in 2023.
