FAC Executive Director Named as One of Seven Appointments to Brooklyn Marine Terminal Development Corporation

On December 18, 2025, Mayor Eric Adams announced seven mayoral appointments to the Brooklyn Marine Terminal Development Corporation (BMTDC).

This BMTDC is tasked with overseeing the transformation of the 122-acre Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) in Red Hook into a modern, all-electric maritime port and a vibrant mixed-use community.

The seven mayoral appointees represent a diverse group of leaders from the local community, housing advocacy, and the maritime industry. They include:

  • Karen Blondel: President of the Red Hook Houses West Tenants Association.
  • Michelle de la Uz: Executive Director of Fifth Avenue Committee.
  • Thomas McMahon: Former NYC Council staffer and government affairs expert.
  • Regina Myer: President of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
  • John Nardi: President of the Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey.
  • Tokumbo Shobowale: CFO of Fordham University and former COO of NYCEDC.
  • Jesse Solomon: Executive Director of the Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation.

These individuals will join a 23-member board that includes representatives from the Governor’s office, local elected officials, and Community Board 6.

The Vision for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal

The BMTDC will implement the “BMT Vision Plan,” an ambitious $418 million project designed to modernize the aging terminal. Key components of the plan include:

  • Maritime Modernization: Creating a 60-acre, all-electric port to reduce emissions and boost the working waterfront.
  • Housing and Jobs: Building 6,000 new homes (including 2,400 permanently affordable units) and generating an estimated 37,000 temporary construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs.
  • Public Space: Adding at least 28 acres of new public open space and 250,000 square feet of community facilities.
  • Economic Impact: The project is projected to generate $18 billion in economic impact for the city.

Governance and Next Steps

The formation of the BMTDC fulfills a commitment by the Adams administration to establish a governance structure for the site before the end of 2025. The board will ensure transparency and accountability as the project moves through the state-run General Project Plan (GPP) process.

The project is currently undergoing an environmental review, with the public comment period extended through March 2026 to ensure the Red Hook community has ample opportunity to provide feedback.

This development is a cornerstone of the broader “Harbor of the Future” initiative, which seeks to reimagine New York City’s waterways as hubs for innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.
