Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) is excited to share that we have been awarded a $371,000 grant from NeighborWorks to sustaint our critical work in affordable housing and community advocacy.
The funding was announced by US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand as part of a $5.1 million package distributed to 16 nonprofit organizations across New York State through the national NeighborWorks America network. As a charter member of the network, FAC will use these funds to further our mission to advance economic, social and racial justice in New York City.
Strengthening Our Mission
This federal investment supports FAC’s comprehensive approach to community development. Each year, we serve over 6,900 low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, providing essential services that include:
- Affordable Housing: Creating and preserving affordable housing for those who need it most.
- Homeownership: Offering workshops and counseling through our affiliate Neighbors Helping Neighbors, to help residents navigate the path to owning a home.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Educating the community on energy efficiency options to reduce costs and environmental impact.
A Collective Effort for New York
The preservation of this funding was a major priority in Washington. While the NeighborWorks America budget faced a proposed 83% cut, a dedicated effort in Congress ensured that $158 million was ultimately secured in the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bill.
FAC extends its deepest gratitude to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Congressman Dan Goldman for their steadfast leadership and advocacy. Their commitment to protecting these federal resources ensures that community-based organizations have the tools necessary to address the housing crisis and revitalize neighborhoods across the city.
“NeighborWorks America is focused on improving the lives of New Yorkers,” said Senator Gillibrand. “I worked hard to secure this funding and am thrilled to announce that they will keep on doing critical work throughout New York and beyond”.
Looking Ahead
With this $371,000 award, FAC is better positioned to protect the diversity and vibrancy of our communities. By securing stable housing and fostering economic opportunities, we continue to work toward a city where all people can thrive.
