How the Re-Rental Housing Program Works

The Re-Rental program offers affordable housing units in existing buildings. FAC manages the Re-Rental process directly for select properties, giving you another pathway to secure housing.

How the New York City Housing Lottery Works

The New York City Affordable Housing Lottery is managed through the NYC Housing Connect website, the city’s official platform for applying to newly developed affordable rental units. You can ONLY apply for housing units available in the lottery program directly from NYC Housing Connect.

Preview units available through the lottery on our website, which will then link you directly to the specific application for that unit. Please note: Applicants are allowed to submit applications for multiple buildings. Submitting more than one application for the same building will disqualify you. If you’ve already applied through Housing Connect, do not submit a second application through FAC’s website.

Feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to begin? Our Affordable Housing Information Sessions are designed to help. These free, virtual sessions are held on the last Thursday of each month and are open to anyone navigating affordable housing in New York City.

In each 90-minute session, FAC’s expert housing team will: 

  • Explain both NYC Housing Connect Lottery and Re-Rentals options and application processes.
  • Explain which documents are required and when to submit them.
  • Share realistic application timelines so you know what to expect. 
  • Host a live Q&A so you can get your questions answered in real time.

Lottery applies to brand-new or recently completed buildings via NYC Housing Connect. Re-Rentals are units that were previously leased and are now vacant.
Yes! Complete your lottery submission on NYC Housing Connect AND fill out our Re-Rental Form to maximize your chances.
Once you have been contacted, provided the requested documents, and HPD approves your file, you can schedule lease -sign and move in.
It is impossible to say the odds of selection until the lottery is concluded since it depends on the total number of applicants.
