Sunset Park Apartments & Library

FAC’s Sunset Park Apartments and Library is a 50-unit, eight-story affordable housing project with a modern and expanded public library space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Completed in August 2022, this new development responds to the critical need for affordable housing in the community. (For more detail about the need, see FAC’s 2020 Sunset Park housing report here). Forty-nine of the units are for low- and moderate-income residents who earn between 30% and 80% of Area Median Income. Eight units receive Section 8 subsidies.

This project was part of an innovative partnership between FAC and the Brooklyn Public Library, along with the State and the City of New York, that has established a new development model under which the creation of affordable housing is paired with new and expanded public library facilities. The preexisting Sunset Park library branch was one of the most heavily used in New York City, but the previous library building had outlived its useful life. This project is not only introducing modern library facilities but will nearly double the size of the previous branch to 20,000 square feet.

Funders include New York State Homes & Community Renewal, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development, The Bank of New York Mellon, and the National Equity Fund.
