Many New Yorkers struggle to find housing that they can afford. To respond to this persistent need, Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) develops and manages affordable housing for low- and moderate- income community residents. Over our history, we have built or renovated over 1,500 units of affordable housing, including both rental buildings and homeownership opportunities. Many of our buildings also include commercial spaces and community facilities, providing a variety of services, programs and retail. Over 80% of our retail tenants are small businesses owned by women and / or people of color. Our completed projects represent a total investment of more than $365 million into Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods
We’re proud of what we’ve built for local residents, and know that there’s still work more to do. In the next several years, we’re planning to develop or preserve more than 2,000 affordable apartments, representing a further investment of more than $1 billion to help provide housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
We also provide property management services for most of the buildings that we have built or renovated, including over 600 units in 48 buildings. Several of these are supportive housing buildings for specific populations, including older adults, people with mental illness, mobility impairments, or those in recovery from substance abuse. These buildings include both affordable apartments and services to address residents’ needs. FAC’s Community Services team also provides case management and support to connect with public benefits and services for tenants in all the buildings we manage.
