Workforce Development

FAC is committed to helping community residents secure stable, living-wage employment and career development opportunities. We have assisted thousands of people with training, education and job referrals.  Our programs are offered at no charge and aim to give all participants the tools for economic self-sufficiency.

Brooklyn Workforce Innovations

Public Housing residents graduate from NYCHA Resident training academy.

Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI) is FAC’s workforce development affiliate. BWI’s mission is to fight poverty and empower low-income New Yorkers by creating living-wage employment opportunities. BWI aims to break the cycle of poverty and connect our graduates not just to work, but to careers with long-term potential and the chance for growth and advancement.

Career Training Programs

BWI’s eight award-winning sector-based career training programs counter prevailing inequalities, especially those based on race and gender, and contribute to a broader movement for economic justice here in New York City.

BWI Programs include:

  • Red Hook on the Road
  • Brooklyn Networks
  • Brooklyn Woods
  • NY Drives
  • Made in New York Production Assistant Training Program

Stronger Together

Stronger Together was a collaborative led by Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC) in partnership with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations (BWI), Red Hook Initiative (RHI) and Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC). It was an integrated service model to prepare more than 1,000 working age adult public housing residents in Red Hook and Gowanus, Brooklyn to succeed in their education and in gaining and sustaining employment.

Stronger Together led to FAC’s launching a new bridge program – New American Bridge Program –  combining contextualized math and literacy instruction with sector-based workforce training.
